Portrait commission Terms and conditions
Commission Process
The process begins with a first contact via email, where the client describes the type of portrait they would like, the size, the subject, and any ideas they have. From there, we will evaluate together what is possible based on available materials.
Once everything is agreed upon, the artist will send a quote and estimated timeframe. If accepted, the artist will produce an initial sketch or composition based on the provided material, which will be sent to the client for approval before beginning the painting.
The portrait will be painted in oil on canvas or wood, using traditional techniques and archival materials to ensure durability and quality.
Reservation Fee
To confirm the commission and reserve a place in the artist’s schedule, the client must pay a 50% non-refundable reservation fee. This amount is required for the artist to begin work and will be deducted from the total price of the piece.
Reference Images
The quality of the final result depends greatly on the quality of the reference images provided. The artist reserves the right to decline the commission if the photos are unsuitable for creating a high-quality painting. In this case, the client will be informed, and efforts will be made to obtain better references.
Timeframe
The estimated time to complete the painting is between 4 to 6 weeks. If the client requires the work by a specific date, the artist should be informed in advance. The artist will do everything possible to meet this date, but additional costs may apply depending on availability and urgency.
Client Rights and Revisions
Once the painting is finished, the artist will send photographs to the client for approval. Minor retouches may be requested at this stage, as long as they are technically possible and do not compromise the painting.
No changes will be accepted after the final varnishing.
If the client has any concerns or questions, they may request clarifications at any point during the process.
The client has the right to confidentiality. The commissioned painting will not be shared publicly by the artist if the client expresses that preference.
Final Payment and Delivery
Once the client has approved the painting, the remaining 50% balance must be paid in full before shipping.
The cost of shipping is not included in the commission price and will be calculated based on the client’s location.
The artist commits to packaging the work carefully and shipping it via a trusted courier service.
The artist is not responsible for shipping delays caused by the courier or customs procedures, as these are beyond their control.
Cancellations and Refunds
If the client cancels the commission before work has begun, the reservation fee will be refunded. If the work has already started, the 50% reservation fee is non-refundable. Once the painting is completed and approved, no refunds will be issued.
Artist’s Rights
The artist retains the copyright and the right to reproduce the artwork for promotional purposes (e.g., website, social media, or portfolio).
However, the artist will not publish the work if the client requests privacy.
The client may not reproduce the painting for commercial purposes without written permission from the artist.
