POST-MORTEM IN FOREST
Oil on linen canvas, 60x92cm

This painting is part of my postmortem series, drawing inspiration from 19th-century postmortem photography. It depicts the deceased lying in a peaceful, natural setting, gradually merging with the environment as decomposition begins.
Created in oils, the piece utilizes varied brushwork to evoke a range of textures, employing a classical technique of indirect painting with multiple layers.
The model, Tino, is a homeless man living under a bridge near my studio. His presence in the work reflects a metaphorical death, as his plight is consistently overlooked by the authorities, who neglect to provide the assistance he needs.
