FUNERAL FOR A BIRD
Oil on canvas, 15x30cm

Painted from life, this piece serves as a humble tribute to a bird found dead on a rainy day near my apartment. A candle, a symbol commonly used in Catholic funerals, was included to represent the transition to a new life and to serve as a protective element against the advancing shadow on the right.

The experience of discovering the bird alone under a car prompted reflections on the suddenness and inevitability of death, regardless of place or circumstance. It also highlights how humans, unlike animals, often strive to avoid such solitary and unceremonious deaths, seeking connection, meaning, and rituals to honour the end of life.
