Nicolás Di Gesu is a contemporary figurative painter born in Argentina.
He formalized his studies in drawing and painting first in Buenos Aires, studying at the atelier of Ariel Gulluni, and later in Madrid, at Atelier Madrid, under the guidance of Arantzazu Martínez and Mikel Olazábal.

Nicolás is drawn to the human drive for life and the obsession with eternity, despite the inevitability of death. His work explores this theme, rooted in the culture of death, and seeks to challenge society’s tendency to treat death as a taboo. Through his paintings, he aims to offer a comforting remembrance of those who have passed, while inviting reflection on humanity’s shared fate and the importance of making meaningful use of time.

Di Gesu uses oil painting as his primary medium and follows a classical technique inspired by the Baroque and 19th-century academic realism. His compositions often combine realistic elements with imagined ones, creating scenes that blend observation with invention.
After years of working with oil, he adapts his methods to the needs of each painting, allowing the process to evolve based on the effect or mood he seeks to convey, whether through layered glazes, smooth or rough surfaces, or bold, expressive brushwork using stiff or worn brushes.

He currently lives and works in his studio in Madrid, Spain.
